How hard is UNC out-of-state? (chances please)

I really have no way of gauging the UNC difficulty. Can someone give me an example?

Stats
Ethnicity: White
Applied: Early
Residency: Out-of-state (MA)
School: Public, 250/grade
EC: lots and lots and lots and lots
Work: paid summer research job (40 hrs/week, 10 weeks)
Essays: Assume mediocre at best
ACT: 32 (math 33, reading 30, science 33, english 35, essay 10)
GPA (uw): 3.42
GPA (w): 4.24
APs: US History (4 - not sure what happened, got a 97 on my class's final),
Physics B (4 - I hate science, which you probably can't tell by these APs),
Physics C:M, Physics C:EM, Chemistry, Spanish Language, Statistics, Calculus BC (8 total)
Taking 6 APs senior year
All classes honors or AP except for three English classes

So yes, my GPA is really low...but I've taken the hardest courseload possible except for one class three of the four years. I take six classes during my senior year (most people take four or five) and will be taking six AP exams in May. My high school is one of the best in the area and had a strong history.

What do you all think?

I don’t know man. If your essays are “mediocre at best” then you probably won’t get in, unless you’re some basketball/lacrosse/football prodigy…

I heard that getting into UNC OOS is as hard as getting into IVY League school, so it is going to be really tough, but good luck dude, your stats don’t seems to be so bad.

I feel all that’s keeping my down is my GPA.
My long essay I feel would earn a 4/10 or a 5/10 (0 being bad, 10 being best essay ever written)
My short essay I feel would earn maybe a 6/10
I did include an additional information essay about my family.

I don’t know how many times it has been stated here, but essays are extremely important in UNC admissions and we always tell everyone to give them a great deal of effort and care, especially if you have any perceived weaknesses in your app.

Without knowing how competitive your school is it is hard to comment on your GPA…ie if you attended St. Mark’s, Phillips or Milton a 3.42 would not be a weakness but hard to say how your HS compares.

Essays should not be taken for granted when applying to UNC.
