I am not sure if I should apply for them.
I have a 32 ACT score-not very high, 3.98GPA, but I'm from North Dakota.

The need-based aid is good enough right?

if you don’t apply, it’s extremely hard…

Through the years there have been lots of posts about this subject and the general feedback has always been that you need to have very high standardized testing coupled with a high class rank (for example, ACT of 34 or better) to be considered for a full tuition scholarship. Even then it’s no lock. However, there are just as many posts regarding awarding half and 3/4 tuition scholarships to a larger population of talented applicants. Seems like it would be worth the effort to apply if you are anywhere close in the stats.

Omegaz, apply. Do your absolute best effort and apply apply if you have met deadlines. You may just be the North Dakotan Vandy is looking for.

If you don’t get the (rarer) signature merit offers, you may get partial merit plus whatever need you might then require. You may find Vandy is the same cost as your best public option…you simply can’t know now.

There are many kids at Vandy who are qualified to enter multiple colleges but accepted Vandy’s offers of support and came to Nashville.

That said, there are many truly excellent kids paying their FAFSA/CSS Profile established rate with no merit at Vandy who have top test scores the equal of merit scholars. Many many deserving students are not offered merit. A 32 ACT is no longer unusual at Vandy at all…even so…it is a very nice score to have on your apps.

Lauren’s advice is the best. In fact, you should apply for merit wherever you are looking and not make any decisions till April.

good luck and congratulations on your fine record. It not too late to put the effort out–my son was still polishing essays every single deadline date

I scored a 33 on the ACT, had a 4.14 GPA and was Valedictorian of my class…and I didn’t receive any kind of academic scholarship. Hope you have better luck than me!

^ So it’s based on luck? lol jk

kinda, I mean the essay actually counts a lot. plenty of people with better scores and grades and such than mine didn’t get the scholarship, but somehow I did, so I would say it’s worth a shot
