How has CC changed your admissions process? Documentary Film

I am a filmmaker working on a documentary on how College Confidential is affecting the admissions process for students, parents, and admissions professionals.  We have interviewed senior counselor Sally Rubenstone and Dave Barry, who co-founded CC, and admissions deans and students from around the country. I’ve received permission from College Confidential to post this thread.  We are going to be filming in the cities below on the dates listed.  If you would be available, we would love to interview you!  Reply to this thread and I will send you more details via PM.

Cheers,

You mean “the admissions process for students and parents targeting Ivies”, specifically?

CC serves a much broader audience than that.

Hi, thanks for the question!

We are not focusing specifically on Ivy applicants – we want to examine a variety of perspectives that reflect the wide user base of CC.

You posted to several Ivy college sites, and are pretty much reposting the same thing multiple times.

CC hasn’t done much other than entertain me.

I don’t want to be involved but just want to say that I hope you are covering the wide range of people and issues that appear on College Confidential, not just selective admissions. In fact, CC really isn’t all about selective admissions but offers, along with support for the stresses of college applications, peer advice for families dealing with a student being derailed in one way or the other, advice on health issues, and lists of schools that might offer a “fit” versus prestige, among many other topics.

Do I get paid to be in this movie or film?

My children had already been accepted to the colleges of their choice when I started reading CC. However, I’ve learned a ton about financial aid and how to make it work and about taxes and credits from reading CC.

No stops in flyover country? Count me out.

So the middle of the country is of zero interest to you? That’s very telling.

Does a good looking, famous movie star get to play me in the film?

This guy/gal’s going to get a terrible impression of CC. :))

A Facebook page says “HappyPapaya Films is a production company intent on creating the greatest films ever made that are focused entirely on jovial tropical fruit.”

So. Is this you? Fruit?

Even if its not, why should anyone take you seriously? As far as I’m concerned, permission from CC is not the same as an endorsement.

Porn producers advertise on Craig’s List like this. Why don’t you know that?

Maybe if Sally R posts something under her name indicating her confidence that you are legit.

So much for being confidential.

MODERATORS NOTE:

admissionsfilm has been vetted and approved by Sally & CC.

carry on

No stops in the SE, so I’m out. It’s a shame, because many people I know have never heard of a lot of colleges in the NE, Midwest, or West.

And they missed Columbia.

Sounds like a failed enterprise (just like the photo contest, the greenies, etc.).

In the interests of full disclosure, is Hobson’s paying for this documentary to be produced?

That’s the first thing I thought, CTTC, but I was afraid I’d be banned if I brought it up.

I loved the greenies =D> Brought great comaraderie in many threads here for a while. Oh well. That said, I hope the OP finds what they need.

Just heaping on… There are many students and families that don’t live on the coasts. We are relevant. At the very least you could have included like Chicago.
