Chemistry P is a course taught in the Student Learning Center that is designed to prepare students to take Chem 1A the following semester.

I'm currently signed up for Chem 1A, but I haven't taken AP chem in high school so I don't think I'm really prepared.

I am thinking of taking Chem P in fall and take Chem 1A in Spring.
Was this course especially helpful to anyone?

Chem 1a was pretty basic and easy. My roommate did not take AP chem but she pulled off an A.
hope this helps.

Don’t worry, I didn’t take AP Chem either and Chem 1A was really easy. Chem 1A at Cal w/ prof Stacy underscores big, general ideas, not small details.

I hated chem back in high school and scored really bad on the SAT II chem… yet Chem 1A seemed pretty easy. Most people can probably pass this class without using the textbook since enough comes out of the lecture slides.

I see. I guess I won’t drop Chem 1A then, because I have Stacy too.
Thanks!

I’m taking chem 4a…without any AP experience.. o.O

In my experience the SLC (disclaimer: my experience with the SLC is very limited) has a pretty skewed impression of what classes are actually like.

Chem 1A is not designed to be super hard. If you haven’t had any chemistry before, or don’t feel confident in your preparation, a good thing to do would be to Amazon and buy a copy of Schaum’s beginning chemistry and read a few chapters out of that (maybe spend a couple hours a day for a few days) to familiarize yourself with what the general topics in chemistry are. That is all the preparation you need to take Chem 1A or 4A.
