I got a 3.94 this semester. Do I need a full 4.0 for dean's list? I feel like I heard that somewhere.

Your overall GPA matters.

My overall GPA at Cal? I have a 3.97 now. It isn’t just based on each semester’s GPA?

For the College of Letters and Science and College of Chemistry, overall GPA does NOT matter for the dean’s list.

For L&S, it is intended to be the top 4% of students (in a given semester) who took at least 13 letter graded units with no incomplete/no-pass grades. The GPA cutoff can vary by semester depending on how people did. It looks like the cutoff has been 4.0 for the past 2 semesters, probably because more than 4% of students got a 4.0. The cutoff in Fall 2011 was 3.94, though, so you still have a shot.

For the College of Chemistry, there is no unit requirement and you just need a 3.9 gpa in a given semester to qualify.

What are some of the perks for getting on the dean’s list? Is it just swag and an extra field on your resume?

No real perks that I’ve noticed, unfortunately, haha. Just swag.

I’m intending to major in both Engineering Physics and Applied Mathematics. Right now, I’m in the College of Engineering as Engineering-Undecided. Since one of my intended majors is in the L&S, at what point will I become eligible for the L&S Dean’s List?

I’m not sure about this, but you would probably become eligible the semester you officially declare your applied math major.

I’m in L&S. Hm, damn. Doesn’t sound too likely, though. I won’t get my hopes up. Oh well.
