Why in the world is the dean's list at Berkeley cut-off at 4.0??

<p>Pretty much every other school I know have their cutoff at 3.5-3.7ish.. I don't get it!!</p>

<p>There’s always Honors-to-Date! Right now the cutoff is around a 3.7.</p>

<p>the top 4% always end up with 4.0 or 3.96… which is pretty much a 4.0…</p>

<p>3.95 is 20 units of A and 4 units of A-… so I am assuming if you are taking a regular load of 15 units and get A for 11-12 units and an A- in a 3 unit or 4 unit class, you won’t make the dean’s list</p>

<p>Meh I made the dean’s list last semester, didn’t think it was too hard. If you take a look at the list, there are a lot of people on it.</p>

<p>Getting straight A’s in one semester isn’t necessarily too difficult. I mean…think about it. You could take an introductory 5-unit language class along with two easy 4-unit breadths. Boom, Dean’s List! That’s why the list is pretty large.</p>

<p>But yeah, technically Dean’s List is the top 4%…but as starmia mentioned, that’s basically a 4.0…unless you’re taking a billion units in which case you could afford an A- I suppose.</p>

<p>is this only for L&S? is there something like this for engineering?</p>

<p>It says that the students took 13 units, with no P/NP credits permitted. So if I’m taking thirteen units and, on top of that, a decal or something that can only be taken P/NP, would I still be eligible for the Dean’s List?</p>

<p>What’s the Dean’s List for? As in are there scholarships/opportunities on the line, or is kind of like the “honor roll” in high school?</p>

<p>Luckily for students in College of Chemistry, the cut-off for Dean’s List is a term GPA of 3.900. So I guess we have it pretty easy :P</p>

<p>(Actually, it’s really difficult to get that GPA if you’re taking 3-4 technical courses per semester…our list is small!)</p>

<p>^^afaik, dean’s list is just for bragging rights. and of course it might look good on your resume.</p>

<p>also I don’t think P/NP units are allowed on the schedule if you want to get on the list.</p>

<p>Has been playing video games every day and got 4.0 for 2 semesters… All science&math courses for CoC requirements… I guess it’s not that hard to get on the dean’s list…</p>
