How much does the Boston admissions look at ECs vs GPA/ACT. For example, I have a 3.6W 3.0 UW, 31 ACT, but a ton of ECs (Captain of state qualifying volleyball, 3 jobs, 400+ hours volunteering, year-round volleyball) I also started my own social media management and web design firm. Do I have a chance with all my ECs, or will my GPA kill my chances? I’m hoping that me starting my own company will help.

Thanks!

You have posted on this sub forum three times now asking the same question. Instead of continuing to ask us who are basically making educated guesses, why don’t you work on getting your act score up and getting the highest marks possible on your first semester grades.

@Eagle1095 Actually, no one has made any guesses (educated or not) :)) . And increase gpa, increase ACT? Well, aren’t you helpful! Thank you for the thoughtful and unique advice [-X . Why don’t you either be helpful or.not say anything at all :-@

In the opinion of a current Boston College student, if you don’t find that advice helpful then you are coming to the wrong forum. What else do you expect people to say? Boston College admissions are just as hard to guess as any other top program, the best way to give yourself the best chance of gaining acceptance is to have a good SAT/ACT score and a high GPA. Beyond that, EC’s may help a student on the borderline but if you are too far below the GPA threshold as you may be in this case, the EC’s won’t save you.

jpm provided an excellent response in the other thread. Unless you can be recruited for volleyball, no one else can improve on that response.

The short answer is that BC is holistic, but understand that nearly 90% of all matriculants are in the top decile of their HS class. If your grades are not that high - and they are not – you had better offer something else that is really good.

Did you have to work 3 jobs to help pay the bills? If so, write about that in your essay.

Has your business taken off? Does it have paying clients?
