How I got an 800 on the SAT Critical Reading (A Story and Guide)

Agree 100000% with #9. That is the key to getting the passage-based questions right.

I’m sorry, esthetique. The proctor wasn’t keeping track of the time properly? Was he/she not using a stopwatch?

We had a digital clock on the tv. I use a stopwatch normally. But she just estimated the time. So like when the tv said 8:30:40, she actually wrote the start time as 8:30 and end time as 8:55. She didn’t take the seconds into account, so we actually lost time. Those seconds were important to me :frowning:
Maybe next time I’ll time myself under the time limit so that i’d be prepared for anything like this again. =/

Ah, yes. The timing can kill people on a few seconds. That’s why I usually practiced so I would have at least a few minutes remaining to double-check my work. Good luck next time.

Haha Thanks Apoc :)

Please let me know how you guys did on the November SAT (when the score reports are released) if you used this guide. Thank you.

So the Nov. SAT scores come out tomorrow…good luck, everyone!

How did you guys all do?

2400 bro :)

Nice! Did you use this guide at all?

Yep I played devil’s advocate lol

Good luck to everyone on tomorrow’s SAT!

Did anyone get his or her PSAT results back yet?

i definitely did not get an 800 on this past CR section (december SAT). That architecture section was ridiculous so im hoping for a big curve

so around how long total did it take you to go from 600s to 800? And did it really take you just a few weeks to go from low 700s to high 700s/800?

Yeah. I was practicing for 2-3 months total. I rose within a few weeks to the 700 barrier and I just kept practicing until something just “clicked” after reviewing my right and wrong answers and I started to exponentially increase in score so that I was getting near perfects on my practice tests one week before the Oct. 9 SAT. But keep in mind, my story is probably unconventional as I only used about 7 practice tests to get to my score. Others have used 25 tests or more to get a 2300+ score so it depends on the person. Practice does make your score go up; even if you’re stuck at a barrier for a while, more practice and reviewing will eventually make your score much better.

So how did everybody else do on their PSAT/SAT?

I hope everybody has a great winter break! Relax and don’t worry too much about the SAT over break!

9 is just a wonderful tactic to have with you for every MCQ test you ever face, yet is something that I had overlooked until now. Thanks, Apoc314!
