How I raised my SAT score by 790 points-My story

@Ennnnn I tried dr chungs for a bit but found it hard to understand some of the explanations… And there were a lot of typos

But I think you’ll have to try it out for yourself to decide! :slight_smile: many people have mixed views about it

@spuding102 Congrats bro. After reading this thread and many more on CC, I have become motivated to transform my score from a 1620 to 2000+. I bought the Blue Book two weeks ago and have been practicing every chance I get. I’m currently working on the Critical Reading, and so far the only part that isn’t improving is the sentence completions. Did you have a specific way to improve on the sentence completion part of the CR? So far this part of the section is keeping me in the low 600’s for CR (although untimed)
Thank You and good luck

@YoungMeachie Direct Hits volume 1 & 2

Wow congratulations!

Thanks @spunding102 . I am taking the PSAT this fall and SAT this spring. I was very confused on how to start studying for this, but your post really helped me! Goodluck at Duke!

Sorry, but where can you find a full pack of LSAT CR practice tests?

I almost run out of tests. I am saving the Blue book for full practice tests, so I try to find other SAT practice tests online. My writing is in the 650s and my math around 750s. However, my reading sucks; I cannot get out of the low 600s.

SO AWESOME!!! Thanks a lot!!

@spuding102 Congrats!
I will give SAT in October, I am already done with the Blue Book and will start doing the papers in the Official Online Course.
How did you come across the previous year’s papers? My futile efforts haven’t lead me anywhere.
Where did you find them? Do you know the name of the website? was it TCB only?
Can you post the link?

and also, is PSAT at the same level difficulty as SAT? Do you think one should practice them for the SAT?

Yes the PSAT is exactly the same level of difficulty. Try to find more tests online they are out there

@spuding102‌ How many section tests are you recommending from the BB per day?

It depends on how much time you have really. You can try doing 3 sections per day

Congrats! good job

@spuding102‌ Do you have any similar tips for ACT?

In my experience, Preparing for the SAT helped me do well on the ACT. Therefore I believe that if you can master one you can also master the other with some practice

@spuding102‌ Are you saying that I can take the ACT without studying it (but with my knowledge of studying SAT?), because I plan on taking the ACT next fall and seeing how that goes… (i won’t be studying for the science section as it isn’t included on the SAT…)

Yes that is what I did. Take a few practice ACTs though to become familiar with the test

Congrats! That’s amazing! So I was wondering if doing LSAT guides really do help improve my critical reading score, and if so, which guide should I buy?

@spuding102‌, Thanks for the great post. Really motivated me to keep doing practice tests. Quick question. I have spent this summer preparing for the SAT in October. My CR score was improving steadily(660-720) however, for the past 6-8 tests, my critical reading has either stayed the same or progressively gotten worse(710-690-690-680-670…650) this has got me really worried. I have reading and memorizing Direct Hits and have been using the same technique for passage based questions. I have been making different mistakes each time(passage-comparison q’s->sentence completion->inference q’s). Do you think that this is just a brief low point, and that I will continue to improve after more tests? Really worried :-S

@kool814 I wouldn’t worry to much. When I was practicing there were times where I had low points but I eventually bounced back. Eventually and with enough practice, the only way your score to go is up
