How I raised my SAT score by 790 points-My story

Thanks @spuding102‌ also, do you have a specific technique of attacking comparison passage based questions. I seem to always forget whats in the first passage, but there is not enough time to re-read the passage.

@kool814 Yes! For those passages I read/underlined for passage one and then answered passage one questions. Then read/underlined for passage two and answered passage two questions. Then answered the comparison questions

@spuding102‌ Cool. I guess all I need to do now is keep my focus up while im taking practice tests and hope fully my test scores will raise.

wow nice strategy but my problem is that sometimes i don’t even finish half of the questions on critical reading and the time ends.i’m very weak in this section and my highest so far has been 430 but i’ve got 800 in math and a 710 in writing skills although i started with a 570 and a 470 respectively.i usually get discouraged by my scores in critical reading.somebody share his strategies much with me on the passages especially.

@evan81.congrats on your critical reading.i suggest you use the barrons book for math.i started with a 570 but with attention to barrons and the way he solves questions,i am able to get a 750-800 recently.barrons gives shorter steps to solving questions and that can help you be fast on the test.i’d like you share your critical reading strategies with me.this is my e-mail;paulowusuquophijunior@gmail.com

*make sure you do the practice sections in the collegeboard blue book! it really helps!

@spuding102 Have you tried Erica Meltzer’s critical reader? I’ve been through 4 practice tests with no improvement on my CR, and normally I improve fairly quickly (for example, I went from a 490 to a 750-790 in like 10 days on the Writing section).

@henrytheunicorn I have not. I only used her grammar book

@spuding102‌ You only self-studied? Have you ever taken any SAT prep classes? They are extremely pricey!

where do you find so many practice tests tho…?

Thanks your tips really helped. I’m taking the SAT in 2 months.I took a practice test and got a 1790. Do you think I can get above 2000 by the time of the test, because I’m kind of panicking right now?

be bold and work very hard.i’m around such scores, sometimes higher, sometimes lower.Hard work always pays on the SAT.I know how i’ve improved in some few weeks.

This is very inspirational. I started at a 1270 just 3 months ago. I’m at a 1800 flat at this point in my prep. The SAT can only be gamed by consistent study and determination. I’ve learned quite a bit during my studies.

Critical Reading: Buy Direct hits. Critical reading score spiked to a 410 to 620 in just 3 weeks.

Math: Learn to spot the traps and be on the lookout for easy shortcuts. All of the math books are the same IMO. Just practice with real sat math questions and you’ll do just fine. 490 to 580.

Writing: AcademicHacker’s Essay guide is gold. Went from a 6 essay to a 10 essay in a couple of weeks.
The grammar section is extremely predictable. Practice with real sat questions from the blue book and review the major grammar concepts. 370 to 600.

This website’s Sat prep advice is spectacular. I would probably still be stuck at 1270 without it.

critical reading is treating me bad nowadys.i am used to getting 470-500 but i came down to 410,something that astonished me very much.i’m still studying tips, all around but it just droped amazingly.

infact i’m just confused.whether to write in in october or november,ar least my works should reflect but none.

@Burningblaze if you mean the short 2 paragraph based questions the you can try to do passage 1 and then answer passage one questions and then do passage 2 and answer passage 2 questions. The point of the line reference technique is to break up the information into manageable chunks but if its already in small paragraphs then you don’t have that problem and you can just do it straight.

Hello. I am taking at least one section each day on school days (2 sections for writing) and full sections or a full test during weekends, but I only have a month to go. I was taking college classes, doing college applications (still doing them) and reading prep books in the summer. I am a senior in high school. Do you think this will still be effective since I have only a month left ? My goal is to raise my score from approx. 1950-2000 to 2150.

Also, do I score a full 3 sections (or 2 for writing not counting essay) at a time or grade a section right after I take it?

@spuding102 I want to improve my language to understand the passage … I am from Egypt and I can’t speak English well … in June I tested the sat and I scored 600 in the math section and 330 In the reading and 340 in the writing … not because of my lack understanding or like that but because of my weak language … do you have any advice to improve my language in this 1 year ? when I understand the passage … I see it to easy but the problem is in the vocabulary and the language itself

If you are a bright student and initially got very low on the exam, aren’t you living testimony that proves that the SAT isn’t a good indicator of grade inflation? I mean, you increased the score because you gamed the system and did intense prep. That hardly makes you smarter than someone else.
