At this point everyone has already submitted their applications and now we await the coming months of February through April. So I guess this is just something that I was just wondering. I applied into the college of liberal arts, but was curious about the Anthropology and Geography major. How impacted is it? And I completed all required and desired courses, will be getting my AAT, will be done with the IGETC/CSU GE’s in spring and am a local applicant from Cuesta. If I had geared everything toward that major for instance, what would my chances have been? My gpa was around about 3.15-3.18
Not sure i understand your question but, with a 3.18 from Cuesta and an AAT and all the right classes, you just might get in but, it will be close. Please apply elsewhere as well.
Thanks @NCalRent sorry to be vague too. I just meant like how many people apply to it a year? Is it a popular major? For freshman? For transfers? Just curious because I’m starting to wish I had applied for it.
People hate hearing this but CP SLO simply doesn’t admit a lot of transfer applicants for any major. The total number of Transfer admits last year was around 1600. Compare that with the 14,000 freshman admits. It is a position based on an educational philosophy - Learn by Doing as they call it. I am not in a position to influence their practices nor really comment on the wisdom of the approach. The school simply doesn’t make much room for Jr transfers.
I have never seen major level admission stats for CP SLO. The do publish College level data here:
http://admissions.calpoly.edu/prospective/profile.html
Anthro/Geo is in the College of liberal arts which had about 2100 applicants for 400 spots (about 20% admission rate) and an average GPA around 3.4 - that is much more selective than freshman admission which is about 30%.
They consider more than just GPA so, you may make it in - but, please apply elsewhere just in case.
Good luck
Cal Poly is projecting that they’ll get 66 applicants for 8 Antro/Geo slots. Assuming a 33% yield, that would mean extending 24 acceptances…36%. You can find this information on their Institutional Research page under Projections.
Aren’t those last years (2016-17) projections on the web site?
