How important are essays for colleges like UVA, UNC, and UMichigan?
Good question! I would like to know too. But you can always look at any college’s Common data Set, and it will list how they prioritize various categories on the app. I am guessing the essay is important, but probably not as much as grades and test scores.
UNC- very important
Michigan- Important
UVA- important
My daughter attends a " good public school" and it was obvious to me that besides essays, her school also focused on fit, especially when coming from OOS where the school gets so many OOS applications. The focus on fit was evidenced during the activities planned at orientation and the way clubs and organizations are handled in the fall.
