How important are EC's and when can I start applying?

My stats

Estimated 3.65 GPA by Senior year
Estimated 25 from June 10th ACT
Absolultly 0 EC's ( Unless you count a playing hockey for 14 years and having a part-time job)
In-state ( im only applying to Michigan State)

Alot of people said I was crazy for thinking I couldnt get into MSU with my stats.
So I am guessing EC's dont really matter? MY GPA and ACT arnt the best considering I only have 1 honors class ( H Pre-Calc). I dont have any easy classes either.

Summary- If I have a little bit better then average GPA and ACT for the college Im applying for, do I need EC's at all?

Also, when can I apply. I just finished my junior year.

why wouldn't you consider hockey and working important?

I thought EC's were awards and volunteer work.

No, ECs are all the things you spend your time on outside of school. Hockey & a job are obviously ECs.

If you are only applying to MSU, just check out their website to see when you can apply. It's probably now or very soon.

I would assume that MSU is like U of Mich in that they are very "number" driven. They are more concerned with your GPA and your ACT than they are EC's.
