Im applying for Fall 2014 and I have no ECs or volunteer work since I graduated High School which was about 5 years ago. Im freaking out will this effect my chances?

No, it will not affect your chances. It can only help, not hurt.

where are you applying to and from?

some UC’s (like UCSC and UCmerced) have high acceptance rates so it wont be a big issue, but UCLA or UCB may have an issue with it

I didn’t have any ECs and I got accepted to SD, SB, SC and Davis

It doesn’t hurt you but others who have the same criteria as you and that will be more advantaged in the admissions process.

My understanding is that EC’s aren’t important at all for UCSB, UCSD, UCR, UC Merced, UCSC, Uc Davis, or UC Irvine.

UCLA doesn’t seem to care very much about extracurriculars either, surprisingly, but I’ve heard that in borderline cases(example: your gpa might not be high enough), it may make or break your chances. UCLA and most of the other UCs care only about the completion of prerequisites for one’s major, whether or not you’re going to community college(CC students receive priority in the admissions process over UC students and cal state students), and your gpa. If your major is impacted, you’ll want to have a gpa a little higher than the average for admitted majors to be competitive.

UC Berkeley is the only UC I know of that still cares a great deal about extracurriculars…so if you plan to go there, do try to enhance your academic profile by doing ECs.

In general, ECs can only help you. I’m applying for fall 2014 as well, and I don’t have too many ECs to brag about on my application. :P

mainly focus on finishing your classes
