I know essays are extremely important to the Ivies, and elite colleges, but what about for state schools? Would a bad essay get you rejected, even if you have the numbers to get in?

i heard that the state schools dont even read the two short answer ones, only the long essay and that even then the main essay doesnt count all that much. but really i have no idea

Depends on the size of the school.

UCLA gets 43,000 applications a year. I have a hard time believing they read every single one of those essays.

I think they are fairly important at the Univ of Florida.

There are many state universities that do not even require essays. For those that do, the essay usually takes on importance mostly for people that are borderline.
