How important are Extracurricular Activities

To colleges? I a ton and have decent test scores but not so good of grades. I plan on going to instate schools (Colorado State University or University of Colorado) or Oregon State University. Anways here is my info

Male. African American
GPA: 2.86 (weighted)
ACT: 22 (will be retaking for hopefully a 25 in August)

Extracurricular Activities: (after senior year)
4 years of Varsity Swimming
3 Years of Student Council (Class Vice President)
2 years of DECA and FBLA
2 years of Young Democrats
1 year of Peer Counseling
1 year of Amnesty International

Awards during Highschool:
2 consecutive years of winning Most Improved/Most Valuable Leader of the Swim Team
Being Elected Senior Class Vice President
Invite to Black Issues Forum at CSU (guaranteed to get into school with 3.00 GPA)

so what are my chances for schools listed above. I can get my GPA and Test Scores up a bit. But my real question from this topic is how important Extracurricular Acitivities are to colleges cause i have heard that they are really important but also heard they are not important at all.

At competitive colleges they are VERY VERY important. Mainly because everyone who applies has a 4.0/3.8 UW and stellar SATs. In this case, these colleges can only distinguish a good applicant from a “bad” by their ECs. However, no matter what, grades always always come first (unless you are an olympian etc…). State colleges won’t put as much emphasis on ECs so grades are rather important. It’d be great if you could get your GPA and SAT scores up! Good luck!
