Hi! I’m a rising senior that is planning on applying/auditioning ED1 for NYU Steinhardt Music Theatre. I know that applicants that submit auditions are not required to submit any test scores and that the audition is weighted pretty heavily in the admissions process. I am a student with strong academics - I have a 3.87 uw and 4.6 w GPA, a 34 on my ACT, and I think I will likely get almost all 4s and 5s on my AP exams. Will these stats give me an advantage in the admissions process/increase my chances of getting in (assuming my audition goes well)? Thank you so much!
Most MT programs are purely based on audition. There is a threshold of academics for some schools such as NYU, Michigan and a few others but I don’t believe that better academics helps your application. The exception is Northwestern which is a pure academic admission with a MT supplement. There are a bunch of experts on this board who may give you more specific advice but mine is to work on your audition and make sure that you really want and can afford NYU!
