How important are summer internships for prospective law school students?

I'm a sophomore at UC Berkeley currently and I'm a bit confused about what I want to do over the summer. It's between getting a job and taking a summer class (so I can graduate a semester early) and be a camp counselor, do an internship with a grassroots organization, or go to a different country and help be a camp counselor there.

Are internships really that important to law schools? I currently do volunteer a lot of my time to a couple of organizations that I am really passionate about, but I'm wondering if I have to do more. I've heard that the two most important things for law schools are LSATs and your GPA, but how true is that? do extracurriculars and internships account for a lot?

It is very very true that all they need are your gpa and lsat. The weighing of the ECs are very little compare to those two. However, if you and another potential applicant with the same gpa and lsat score, the one with more ECs and references would win. ( assuming you wrote a good admission essay)

Internships and other work experience will be more important when you interview for jobs for summer and after graduation. As a general matter, many legal employers like to see that a student has held down a job and understands the responsibilities inherent in employment.

I found this interesting:

" As with other law schools, applicants who do not fall into the “auto-admit” or “auto-reject” piles based solely on their numerical index are judged on other factors, including letters of recommendation, personal essays, undergraduate major and undergraduate school. Each of these factors has an effect on the acceptance of an applicant."

This is from University of California, Hastings College of the Law. I think it sounds as if they’re referencing it to how other schools view it as well.
