How important are the essays to Stanford?

My gpa (93-94) is barely acceptable for applying to Stanford. My SAT score is about a full score, so I guess that's keeping my chances above 0%. Eh.

The question is, how much of an impact would a good common application essay and supplements be? Would they forgive a few terms of bad foreign language or biology grades if I write a compelling essay(s)?

Look up the Common Data Set for Stanford, section C7

Thanks, that did shed some light.
But I was also looking for someone who might have been in the same situation as me and gone through the process to talk about their experience.

This is helpful though.

Very. Especially Intellectual Vitality.

Thanks. This /kinda/ gave me hope.

MV: Stanford has the lowest admit rate of any typical 4 year college in the US. There is NO portion that isn’t vital. But it also means a great essay won’t supersede your GPA – which isn’t very strong in the context of the Stanford applicant pool.

A couple of people from my school got in with my range over the last few years, so I do have some hope.
But the essay and interview are pretty much my only hope now.

The stanford website says they only look at 10/11/12 grades so if you are worried about a 9th grade course, then it may not be against you, however they do consider rank, which is a big deal and is effected by 9th grade.

Nothing is un-important.
