I mean in this economy REALLY how can we be sure that just because we go to college after h.s. we are guaranteed a secure career just because we got higher education. I know that some college grads are currently letting their diplomas hang on their wall and struggling to find a job in what they majored in. Would you say its quite possible to put off college for a while and just work with what you got with a h.s. diploma instead of doing the whole college thing then find yourself searching for a career vigoursly. Just thought I'd get soem input on this and what do you guys think you'll do after graduating h.s.

We’re really NOT sure, though. Some people choose to work after high school; some choose to continue their education. People should do what they ultimately want, and not everyone wants to go to college. Not everyone needs to go to college.

I want knowledge. The things I want to do with my life requires knowledge.

^ The ** things ** ** requires ** knowledge?

In our current social system it seems as if it would be difficult to obtain a white collar job of any sort without a college degree. I’m not sure if I agree with this system but as it is an facet of society in 21st century America I’d say that it is very important to go to college.

^Truth, in a better world, such as in many European nations (am typing this from The Netherlands as we speak) have a different system, where High school starts of at what we called 6th grade, and they split kids between Gymnasiums and vocational school, it works out really well because the people are organized based on their wishes and skills; Plumbers and electricians will often make more than college educated people, so the main reason for attending college is simply true academic purposes.

The phenomenon here in the US is that everyone has to go to college and get some sort of certificate whether it’s an Associate degree from Community college or even online degrees from profit colleges. It just makes things very bureaucratic and even in better colleges, many students are in them for the wrong reasons. This is one positive aspect of the recession which is humbling people and making them think more rationally.

Go to college no matter what. Even if you don’t plan on getting a degree in anything related to what you want to do. A college degree = proof of competence.

If you plan on postponing, well, that’s possible, but it is always hard to come back to school.

Haha because sticking with just a high school degree guarantees you so much more job security!

I’m think that all of us on ** College Confidential ** detest college… that’s a good guess.
