How important is GPA for various post-college plans?

I hear conflicting opinions about this all the time and have thus no idea of the truth O_o
If possible, can you orient your answers to my context? I'm an Ivy League student majoring in Biomedical Engineering.

How important is GPA/what is a "good" GPA range for trying to make it into:

Research for a biotech (e.g. Genentech, Genzyme, Amgen)

Pharmaceutical

Top graduate science/engineering programs

Top med schools

Top business schools

IBanking

Consulting (does it differ for strategic management vs financial vs biotech?)

Thanks!

Can anyone help out? Even if you only know about one of them? Thanks

in business, many firms have a minimum cutoff, depending on prestige - no lower than 3.0, and some will have a cutoff at 3.5, 3.6, 3.8

certainly you should strive to achieve the best gpa you can, but remember that it is often a holistic evaluation incorporating activities and interest in a given field
