I was wondering what a competitive gpa for a biochem major would be to get a job in a pharmaceutical company or even a government job.

3.2 and above will get you a position, over a 3.6 will get you THE position. Still, once you get your first job and about 1-2 years of experience it won’t matter any more.

Thanks for the reply. I’m glad to say I’m a little above the 3.2 mark at 3.33. I could possibly push 3.4-3.45 by the end of college. Career fairs are coming up.

Where are you? Are you willing to relocate? Work nights, etc.?

These things can help.

I would target large companies. They’ll give better training and it’s easier to go from a small company to large than vice versa.

Also, I wouldn’t just look at pharma companies. Biotech, while there are some aspects that are pharma, is a much larger industry.

true to the gpa part but you also need a good resume and good interviewing skills. gpa is only one factor companies look at.
