Hello, I just took the GRE for the first time and got a 166Q, 156V, 4.0W. I’m planning on retaking it in a couple of months with the goal of 169-170Q, 160V, and 4.5W. I’m not too good at verbal and I’m afraid that I might not improve by much. I am interested in applying for an Economics PhD in a year, but I’m wondering just how important is the verbal section and what the typical cut-off would be at a top institution. Would a 156V kill my application if I apply for a top program?
