How important is Greek Life at SDSU?

I just got accepted to San Diego State and I’m considering going there. My only concern is the prominence of Greek life. I am willing to try new things, but living with so many other girls in a sorority doesn’t appeal to me too much…but then again, I don’t want to be someone who doesn’t fit in or get into social events JUST because I’m not in a sorority. Cost is a factor too…So basically, could I have a fine social experience at SDSU even if I didn’t join a sorority?

You can definitely have a good time around SDSU even if you’re not in a sorority. San Diego is fun to just go around in, and there’s a party somewhere almost every weekend. Especially since you’re a girl. It’s a lot harder to get into random parties as a guy, but ladies are welcome at almost every party. That being said, not every sorority is about partying.

Living in the dorms should offer you plenty of social life freshman year. If you really feel like you’re missing out not going greek, you can always rush sophomore year.

If you plan to live in the dorms, consider living in one of the Residential Learning Communities. Very engaged communities that offer their residents quite a few social and academic activities. Also, another great way to connect is to take the Freshman Leadership Connection class. It is a part of the Leadership Certificate Program for students. It is a wonderful program that helps nurture future campus leaders. The Freshman Leadership Connection class is only offered in the fall.
