Right now my overall GPA is about 3.7/4.0.

However, every year of high school it has gone up.

High school classes i took in middle school = ~3.25
Freshman year = ~3.5
Sophomore year = ~3.75
Junior year = 4.0
Senior year = 4.0

What im asking is, will this show colleges that i have improved and am now a lot closer to the academic caliber of a 4.0 student. Allowing me to get into a college that normally would take someone with a 3.7 GPA, but since they see the improvement they would make a exception

An upward trend helps show that you have matured and are working to your potential. Some colleges, like Princeton, do not even look at freshman grades when recalculating their own GPA for you. However, your class rank will always reflect your freshman grades, so that can be a deterrent. Do you know what your rank is?

Work hard on your SATI & IIs to prove you can succeed at the top schools. Since you cannot change the grade 9 and 10 GPAs, move on, with the realization that they may do some harm. Be sure to have realistic safeties.

My daughter had similar grades to you (ended up with 3.85 uw - 30th percentile of grad class) and grouped her schools by choice. Top 4, mid 3, bottom 2. She was admitted to one of her top 4 (attending) all mid and bottom. So I echo fauve’s recommendation above. Also, if you have naviance software at your school, be sure to look at it realistically unless you have a special hook. - higher than average for her top choices (just slightly though) ACT score helped the gpa issue. Also, as fauve stated, schools that don’t use 9th grade will look at where you sit in relation to your classmates.

fauve - My class rank isnt great, probably around top 25 percent, although this was when my GPA was 3.62. Im not sure what it is right now.

However, i wasnt planning on applying to any top schools. The more upper level ones i was looking at were Holy cross, University of Rochester, university of maryland and Carnegie mellon (huge reach, but im hoping for some better SAT scores on my second time around)

My SAT score - 1940 Take this with a grain of salf though, it was my first time taking it and i was pretty ill-prepared. On top of that my calculator died after the first math section.

I did get a 800 on the SAT II in chemistry though (intend to major in chem)

Just read your new post. Yes, I think you should push ahead. Take the SAT again and possibly the ACT (you have nothing to lose!) A friend of my daughter took the ACT and scored a 33 the first time and a 34 the second with SAT scores similar to yours. I also know another friend that got into Carnegie with similar stats to you but pushed his SAT score to just above 2100 (took it 3 times). I think you will be happy with your choices! Good luck :)

The good news is that these kids are all college freshman this year. So it is current info.
You will do great and yes, study away for those tests (the one thing my own daughter told me she wished she had listened to me more about). BTW: the Carnegie friend LOVES his school and was also accepted at Cal-Poly.

Yeah, you’re in a great position for those schools. And while a GPA that’s consistantly good is preferrable, an upward trend is better than a downward one, for sure.

Basically, 4.0 all four years>3.7 with upward trend>3.7 with downward trend.
