I'm a rather poor student at school. Although I'd say I'm rather bright, I don't try very hard. I'm a minimalist, which brings my average to around an 85. I'm going into junior year, and it's almost time to take the SATs. I was wondering if I can do well on my SATs, and still be able to get into a good college? By good, I'm talking about 2200 avg SAt colleges, like U-penn. My practice tests usually bring me to around 2100-2300, and I was wondering if that would be enough to get into a highly competitive college, or would they see my GPA and reject me right away.

if you get straight As junior year, I think you’ll have a shot :D

If you do well on the SAT, it will certainly help you in admissions. But I won’t lie; with an 85 average, you aren’t very likely to get into an Ivy League school.

I agree with amarkov on this one. there are going to be lots of 95+ average people applying to ivy leagues, more than enough to fill the seats. chances are, they’ve got the SAT scores too. Unless you have extraodinary talents or extracurricular involvement or brilliant essays, etc. a decent SAT score under 2300 probably won’t do much towards getting you into an ivy. Straight A’s junior year would help, but as it is only 1 of 3 years, your GPA probably won’t get to the A- to A+ range unless you get straight A’s and A+'s, with quite a few advanced level courses. Ivy’s sort of expect a lot of applicants to have 4.0 GPAs and 2300+ SAT scores - they’re looking for more than that.

you better work ur ass off in junior year

Thanks for your responses!
