So how important is it? I applied for NHS and well all my friends have recieved their acceptance letter by the deadline BUT me. so naturally, i'm starting to worry. were you college people in NHS in high school? will i be able to get into a good university without being a NHS member? i'd think so, but because everyone i know is admitted, i'm just worried that i might be left out.

NHS members on my school were picked by popularity, no kidding, some were so slacker-ish and some were just plain mean.

I applied to NHS cause I thought it would fit me very well, ya know? Community service, wanting to raise awareness about issues, etc.

But no, I got denied because I am not popular (NHS people vote on it)

but whatever, I'm getting into good colleges without it, so it's not that important.

I'm more proud of being a Thespian anyways :P

It's a nice thing to have, but it shouldn't keep you out of a school.

And it's Honor, there's no 's'.

Colleges don't care about that stuff. They care about good grades, good SATs, and essays that show them that you seriously care a lot about education and experience and that you're UNIQUE.

Stuff like NHS is filler for people who want to breeze through life and give all the "right" answers in their essays. "I am a hard worker. I will do this. I will do that. Pick me and my multi-colored rope tassle thing". Like someone else said, it's a popularity contest.

Seriously though, I wouldn't worry. Focus on goals, not goofy clubs.

You have to ask the colleges what colleges think. But from my limited perspective I find it unlikely that a college will say "Gee, this kid has great grades, scores, and activities......too bad he isn't a part of NHS. Where's the recycling bin?"

Nope. Not important. DS is 14th in his class of 650, GPA of 4.0 and didn't get in (basically like others schools, it can be a popularity contest) and is purley subjective in many cases. At his school it has nothing to do with grades or rank...only volunteerism. He got into Amherst ED. Don't stress about it. Get good recs and write good essays...that will get you more attention.

NHS is a crock of crap.
