National Honor Society

How important is being in NHS on college apps? This years election was extremely random. At least this is what it seemed like to most. Many students were elected but had absolutely zero volunteer hours (as a matter of fact, this student said she left the signature section blank because she didnt' have any volunteer hours) and others had little leadership experience. Both these kids had great grades, but that's it. I was under the impression that this was a very select few who had to meet ALL the criteria.

My son was in NHS many years ago and it was only a few that made it and there were no surprises. This year seems very very different. Does anyone know why?

I think its different in every school. I don’t think its a big deal not to be in NHS, it sounds fancy for a resume, but most colleges know there is no enforced national standard for getting in. I’m in NHS, and its pretty pointless. Its basically key club with a fancy title and less national recognition…
