Does anyone know how it is important? Foe example, If my GPA is lower than the average GPA, can a good personal statement make the chance higher for the acceptance?
Please share any stats who got accepted to UCLA or other UCs with low GPA, but good personal statements! Thanks guys!

Some sources say that it does not matter as much. I would rank the following in the order of most import to least important:

for an impacted major at UCLA (which I think is all)
1.Pre-req (missing one can chase your app to be tossed)
2. GPA
3.Personal Statement
4. Extracurriculars & Work

Ive been told that the PS plays am important role and sometimes a good gpa and EC can out weight the 4.0 with no ECs.

For freshman applicants, it matters a lot. For transfers, not so much.

Important** Cause** iPhone autocorrect.

I think there’s like almost no reason to be denied with a 4.0 and all pre reqs done (note: I said almost no reason).

I’ve been told by one of the admission guys that the personal statement can’t hurt you but it can definitely help you

It depends on who you ask, lol. ;)

Basically he said that you should look at it like extra credit. They often use it on borderline students to decide if they should bump them up into acceptance

When an admissions rep came to my school, she said a good personal statement can help a lot. I think if you’re one of the “ehh” students, it can help a lot. I’ve seen people with 3.2’s and one 2.9 get into UCLA but I assume they have great personal statements and I believe TAP and crap like that lol

crap like TAP @crazy

Lmao I did TAP like crap. But that’s because I’m paranoid lmao

Oops I meant crap like TAP. UCLA is making me lose my mind.

UCLA bases most of their admissions mainly based on GPA, Pre-reqs, IGETC and Personal statement is used for borderline applicants.

@Eviity who are the borderline applicants? people who has low average GPA?

Ask UCLA lol.

I’m 90% UCLA hates transfer students right now lmao

2.9 at UCLA?

Yeah a 2.9 GPA and a 3.2 Honors GPA. And got a full ride. I believe we are talking miracles.

@Jimmixxx

If UCLA can’t accept you automatically based on your grades (for your particular major), they will look at other considerations like E.C and Personal statements.
