I go to a school where I don’t believe we use common apps. My school is very well regarded but even with my grades, I wanted to know if it’s really important to use Commonapp. Is there a forum where this is already discussed and where people have made lists of pros and cons?
If the college offers you a choice of, as an example, the Common App or the Coalition App, then it makes no difference to the college which one you use. If the college accepts the Common App only, then there should be no expectation of admissions success if you don’t use the Common App.
If you’re in High School , then high schools don’t “use” the Common Application. You use them to apply to certain colleges, and the college will tell you whether they accept it/require it. If they only accept they Common App, then yes, it’s quite important to use it. If they have other options, they don’t care which you use. They’re all just tools used to deliver information.
If you’re in college, then you don’t need to use the Common Application to apply for college.
The Common App is a timesaving device. Instead of filling out your name, address, activities, coursework, and all that on 10 different applications, you do it once. Instead of writing 10 different essays, you write one (unless, of course the particular schools you choose also require supplemental essays.) You fill out one application, and it goes to any of the 800 or schools that use the Common App.
Are you by any chance referring to Naviance??
And, at the end of the day, I’m sure your school has a process well in place for getting students admitted to college. When you return to school in the fall, I’m sure they’ll keep you abreast of what needs to be done. So find schools you want to apply to, see whether THEY use the Common App, and move on from there.
