I'm slightly worried that Wellesley has a bit of a pre-professional air to it. In addition to Wellesley, I looked into Reed and UChicago, which seem to have the kind of student body in which I would fit. Can anyone tell me more about this aspect of the school?

In my experience, Wellesley is not as pre professional as people make it out to be. Most of my friends are either in the “I don’t know what I want to do after college” part of their lives or looking at grad schools, with a few interested in med/ law school. There might be more business/ or law interested students in the econ or poli sci departments respectively, but a pre professional track is not shoved down anyone’s throat.

I think Wellesley has no shortage of intelligent/ nerdy/ intellectual women. Those who attend a women’s college are a “self selected” group of people, who choose a college with an “atypical” collegiate social life.

I would recommend paying Wellesley a visit if you can.

I agree with college_ruled, with some caveats/further elaboration. I am one of those people who has no idea what I want to do, and I actually am a dreaded econ major, and I know I’m not the only one (as you can see, I am going to be a senior, so this is not a matter of age). On the other hand, as a person with REALLY no clue and with no job or internship experience, I can’t lie and tell you that I don’t feel freaked out and behind my classmates. To be frank though, I have a very hard time believing that I wouldn’t feel the same way at UChicago (maybe not at Reed, which I think really is quite different from Wellesley). I realize that visiting can be prohibitive, but I really must agree that for myself at least, I had a very good feeling about whether I would be at all happy at a given school or not after a few hours at a school.

^^I still have no idea what I’m going to do with my life, either…Neuroscience major here, gearing up to be a junior, yikes. If anybody has any good ideas, let me know!

At Wellesley I meet people who are like me (go-with-the-flow-I’ll-figure-it-out-along-the-way), and then I meet people who have every step of their lives planned out. It just depends on the crowd you hang out with. Usually a lot of the science majors (Chem/Bio/etc) tend to have their lives more planned out, I would think for medical school application purposes. But a lot just don’t know.

But yes, Wellesley is an intellectual community that has a lot of amazing individuals who are very capable. As for how high strung a Wellesley chick is, depends on the chick.
