How is ASB (Student Government) important for college application?

not really unless ur ASB president

not even if youre president. positions are superficial

ill say that if youre really involved in it (regardless of position) then it qualifies as significant extracurricular involvement. but it can easily be paralleled by other conventional extracurriculars.

I disagree. I think leaderships positions are valued. I suppose it depends on how much the ASB does at your school. At my child’s school, ASB had many responsibilities and took an enormous amount of time, including a required ASB class. I think the constant interaction with school administrators and GC’s, etc. led to closer relationships and better recommendations as well as opportunities that were not available to the general population. If you like it, do it. If not, do something else.

i meant positions are superficial to the extent that the difference between being president and lets say secretary doesnt necessarily change a good ec to a bad ec. it all depends on the involvement you have in the ec.

and thats why i say that asb doesnt mean anything to the extent that theres nothing you specifically gain from it than other ecs. there are a lot of other ways to develop relationships with staff to get super good recommendations and stuff.

like the post above me says, just do what you want to do and be involved in that and others.

its really not unless youre pres of vp try doing a DIFFERENT ec because even though i did it for 4 years and i am pres so did everybody else who applied to college.
