How is class rank determined if your H.S. doesnt rank?

Most high schools will provide colleges a profile which shows the gpa of students at the 10th percentile, upper quartile and so forth. Google your high school name and profile and see what you get. College admissions officers will have this school profile and your transcript or the college’s extract of your transcript in front of them when they read your application. They can get a pretty good idea of your rank and the overall competitiveness of your high school this way

^ Exactly. In other words, schools that don’t rank make it ‘impossible’ to determine rank. I’ve looked closely in the past at our school’s profile (the one I found Googling) and I have no idea how AOs use it to project rank. No deciles or quartiles are given. But, they have been doing it for years, and probably have some history on kids from our school, so they just have to guesstimate. Maybe there’s another version of the profile provided to schools that I have not found.

Colleges also take percentiles which give a good indicator of where you are in relation to your class.

Many many high schools don’t rank. I wouldn’t worry about it at all.
