I'm curious to know how Duke's film/video/television program, as well as communications and theatre programs compare to other top schools like Northwestern. On their website it seems like Duke doesn't have a communications program, and their film studies website doesn't look very attractive either. Their theatre page looks decent though.

I'm wondering if I should transfer to another school after a year or so at Duke because their media programs don't seem as strong. What do you think?

1) Never go to a school PLANNING on tranferring. You’ll never open yourself up to the school and notice the amazing things. Rather, you may just see the not so good things.

i’ll answer your question in a week once finals are over. You may want to PM me to remind me :). But Duke definitely has invested itsef in those fields and extracurricularly, even has a student run cable television show, student news, etc. Two of my friends were funded by Duke to go to a foriegn country and film a documentary! Pretty cool stuff :)

Duke also has Program II where you and your advisor can plan and create your course of study :)

also, Duke has A LOT of options. This is why it’s important to be open minded when you get to a school. You may end up wanting to do something COMPLETELY different.

I mean I definitely love Duke as a school, I just feel like I’m missing out on media/communications studies if I go there, compared to being at other schools. bleh.
