UNC communications department

If anyone of you that go to carolina are studying within the communications and media production department, can you please shed some light on it. Strange as the question might be because I'm not really sure how to word it, is unc's communications department in the college of arts & science a legit one? I mean, does it have the kind of clout, or recognition, that some of the other CAS departments might have, such as sociology and psychology. Would you say it's on level with the quality of UNC as a university and with other media production departments at other schools?

I mean, I know it's not a film school by any means, but would you say it's a good enough launching pad?

anyone might know?

Your best bet is to e-mail UNC and ask for details about that department. It seems like, if something along the lines of film or television is your goal, that your time would be much better spent at a school that has a communications major with a film concentration.

I know a guy who goes to Florida State University as a film major: http://filmschool.fsu.edu/. From what I gather they're pretty renowned in that department.

Also, North Carolina School of the Arts and, of course, the UC schools would be good starting places.

I know this doesn't really answer your question, but I can at least start a conversation!

yeah, but i'm already in UNC and hadn't really planned on studying media production at any college. I figured now that i'm here i'd see what they have to offer, and since I really enjoy it I should go after it, if it's worth the time and money.

If it doesn't really match the excellence that other deparments are demonstrating then i could be best served with grad school or seminar or some other means.
