Yeah, that's what I figured.

CS here is extremely hard---I constantly hear people complaining about its difficulty. You must be very committed in order to finish the program. I'm actually doing IAML (intl affairs and mod lang) here, and yeah, at first i was skeptical b/c people always diss the non-engineering majors here. However, its definitely not a joke major, and its mostly theoretical based. The pros here though are that you get a technology-based education that is appealing to potential employers, and the fact that it comes from GT is definitely a plus. It looks better than say UGA (sorry).

I think that UGA would look better for Foreign languages. Sorry, but that's common sense. GT is a great school, but any employer is going to laugh at someone majoring modern languages from a technical school. That's just my opinion, you can ask other employers or grad. schools to see what they think.

I understand what youre saying, but you cant JUST major in foreign languages. It's the fact that its coupled with international affairs that makes the program here unique. If you just want to major in a language by itself, dont come to Tech, but if you want to be in an international environment, I think GT is good. But that's just my opinion.

I'm currently an Emory student with tons of friends (and a grad school boyfriend) at Tech. There's a saying: Study, Social life, Sleep. Pick two.

Tech is a good school, but I wouldn't go there to major in anything other than the technical stuff. In general, CS/EE/IE/Insert-Engineering-Major-Here students tend to be great in math and horrible in written communication. Seriously...a lot of people write on a fifth-grade level. I went to high school in GA, and Tech admits quite a few people who shouldn't be in college in the first place. However, those students tend not to make it.

Freshman year is always the hardest, but a diploma from Tech does look good. The biggest con, in my opinion, is the campus. UGLY.

When comparing Tech's campus to Emory, sdtsarah is right....Emory's campus is spectacular, and in comparsion, Tech's campus is "ugly." However, I dont think it's as ugly as she describes it. Some of the buildings are amazing and attractive, such as the new Biomed building or the Tech Tower or Student Success Center, and esp. the CRC. Granted, there are some not so appealing buildings that everyone gripes about. However, the location of the actual campus in midtown atlanta, rather than being in a suburb like Emory, was a much bigger draw for me. I like being in all the action, rather than somewhat experiencing it from a distance.

Tech has improved its campus over the past few years. I wouldn't say it's as ugly as, say, Rutgers, but the campus has a very utilitarian feel. There are some pretty areas around campus; I live a few blocks away from Piedmont Park, which is definitely within walking distance. I know there are plans to beautify Tech even more, as well. I remember when I used to visit friends there about 5 years ago...it was depressing.

Oh, and don't be one of those lame people who is afraid of Marta. You'll miss a lot of great things in Atlanta.

Ditto on the Marta thing. Get comfortable with it, as it will take you to some amazing places.
