I have stumbled across this website < > in which students from GATech vehemently propose their loathing of the school. At first I thought that this must be a very small proportion of the population, but after checking princeton review, they ranked as one of the most unhappy college students in the nation. Perhaps there is a gem of truth in their outcry for warding off students? Some of the examples that are cited on the website seem unbelievably funny, but nevertheless horrifying. What do you all think?

note: this link contains offensive language when the tech students complain.

I dunno, i do see alot of unhappy kids on campus, but my bro goes there and he's quite happy. He's in a frat though, so who knows how it is for non-frat peeps.

I think the percent of females there is a factor though. . .guys need girls.

Well, Tech is a great school academically. However, there's ALOT of negatives. First of all, it's in DOWNTOWN Atlanta. While being downtown in most cities is hip and cool(e.g. NYC, DC, Boston, LA, etc), Atlanta's downtown area is very rough, grim, and dangerous. The campus at Tech is very gray and has little greenery, so it is a very dark and dreary campus. The nicer areas of Atlanta(Emory, Buckhead, and Midtown) are not too far away, but you're still at Tech nevertheless.

The academics are REALLY tough. Most people don't survive the engineering majors and other difficult science classes. However, people do graduate, just with a major in "industrial management" or something like that.

Also, the profs are extremely intelligent, but have little personality, and well...shouldn't be teachers. They discourage students and weed them out along the way. I know a girl who went there with a prof. who told her she would NEVER do well as a meteorologist, and now she works for NASA.

People refer to the school as a sausagefest, which goes without saying.

Just visit. It's really odd, but still a good school. There is still a decent population of greeks and jocks, and their B-ball team is pretty good. It just takes an outgoing and strong-willed person to do well there. The weak don't survive. I know people who lasted all of one semester, not due to poor academics, but because of the demanding campus, etc. Just don't expect to be pampered or taken care of like a LAC or ivy.

The review discusses how the academics were ridiculous, not in challenge, but in useless application. Also, there was a huge fiasco over the compsci "cheating" policy that has been frowned on by several other institutions. No one is allowed to talk about the work in class, and if they are, they are to be prosecuted. Quite depressing actually.

I have been to the website before, and it truly scared me. Although I applied to Georgia Tech, I think I will not go there. I don't want my college life to be miserable.

I just don't understand how it can be considered such a good school if there is an overwhelming number of students that say the school is terrible.

Because in GA, almost EVERYONE knows how hard Tech is. The academics are extremely rigorous and draining, and people respect GT graduates.
