As usual, I can’t decide my schedule and I have to choose by Wednesday. I know a lot of people on here are in like AP Calc AB or BC. I did not advance so I will be go into Honors Pre-Calc w/Trig as a junior. I don’t know if it’s worth it and if I should just go regular precalc.
I’ll also be doing APUSH, AP Lit, and AP Chem. Since it’s an honor class, it’s not as useful to me as those other classes. I enjoy math, but I don’t want to risk my GPA too much next year, especially with AP Chem.
So how is Honors Pre Calc w/Trig? I don’t know many people with A’s, or at least high A’s, because I’ve been told that the tests are super confusing. What was your own experience with the class and how can I prepare for it over the summer?
Since we go to different schools, I can’t speak for your teacher, but I find honors pre-calc to be a fairly manageable class. Over the summer I just looked up different trig terms, but they weren’t really needed for the class. I will tell you- some tests can be confusing. But if you do all homework and reviews, you will be much more likely to succeed. If you have done well in prior honors math classes, then you should be just fine in Honors PreCalc w/ trig!
@fockeylife my school doesn’t have honors classes for lower math classes so it’d be my first honors math class. in middle school though, i was in the advanced math program. thank you!
@joyce1517 my HS didn’t have any “honors” math classes - just one level of algebra 1, algebra 2, trig, pre-calc, and also AP Calc AB/BC/Stats.
If you decide to take calculus the following year, note that there is a lot of trig involved in calculus (since they have nice derivatives and integrals), and having a good trig background is essential. If you don’t have much trigonometry background, then taking honors pre-calc w/ trig might not be a bad idea.
There’s a difference between “super confusing” and “super difficult.” If a test is confusing (i.e. questions are poorly worded or ambiguous), then that is a separate issue that should be brought up to the teacher.
@MITer94 Okay thank you! I will be planning on taking Calculus AB in senior year, or Calculus BC if I could actually get in and get 95%+ in Honors Pre Calc w/ Trig. People I know say that they’re confusing because in order to do them, you have to fully understand the concept and why you are doing each step.
