How is job-placement for NU Econ Majors (non-MMSS)

I know that the MMSS kids at Nu are heavily recruited by financial firms, especially investment banks, but what about kids who just major in Econ at NU?

I had no idea that NU even had an MMSS program, so I didn't apply for it. Now that I hear about how great it is, I really regret not looking into the program a whole bunch. But my question is, if I just do regular econ major at NU, and get a decent gpa, lets say 3.6-3.7+ can I also get easily recruited by financial firms, and break into investment banking?

Also, how hard is it, does anyone know, to join MMSS at the beginning of soph year? how hard is the application process, then?

Does anyone know the average starting salaries of econ majors at NU post-graduation?

I'm just really really concerned about job-placement after graduating from NU. I mean...NU is nationally recognized for its great econ program, right? I just hope NU's brand name will help me get a job in the finance industry.

you can still apply

^ Isn't it more difficult now though, since they probably have only ~1-2 spots left?

johnlee24,

they have no idea how full it will be so you may be able to talk your way into the program if you try during your NU visit, esp if you have stellar stats to show.

yeah on the website they say they'll accept late applications but they warn that it'll be that much more difficult because, obviously, the majority of acceptances have already been divvied out since it's post-deadline.

you might as well try.

To answer the initial question, you needn't worry about being "just" an econ major at NU. You'll be set. Don't sweat it.
