For those of you with experience there, what are the forms like? Are there more doubles or singles, and is the bathroom between several suites or only one? Is bathroom several showers and toilets, like public restroom, or only one?
Varies with each building and even entryway within a building. According to my S who just finished freshmen year, there are some pretty deluxe freshmen accommodations and some not so much. There are in-suite bathrooms and bathrooms shared by the suites on one floor which will have multiple toilet and shower stalls and sinks. Once you get your college and Old Campus building assignment, you can ask again about that building’s specifics. Remember first year students may also be assigned to Silliman, TD, Murray or Franklin where first years live at their residential college rather than Old Campus.
Just in general the living situations at Yale are a mix of “fabulous” and “not so.” But the kids seem to enjoy it regardless. “Not so” is (generally) no AC or elevators. “So” is (generally) charm and individuality-- wood floors and moldings, (non-working) fireplaces, charming windows with nooks, etc. “Not so” is often rather crowded rooms for the younger students. “So” is more space as you move through the classes.
