3. Duke

5. Vanderbilt
6. South Alabama (Mainly for early med program)

Likely Major: Bio and minor Chem (will take pre-med courses)

Thanks for reading and responding!

w/ your ACT score, you will not make it into Harvard, UPenn or Duke. But, if it gets up to around 34-35, then you may make it in to UPenn or Duke. I’m not familiar with the other schools.

Im in 10th grade and that was my first ACT. I went into it without much prep; I took two practice tests and made a 27 on one and a 28 on the other and I’m confident with prep over the summer I can score within the 33- 35 range next year.

Bump bump bump

You are pretty well rounded. It is just your ACT that is somewhat low for your college choices. Get it to at least 30+. Don’t think you have to get a mega high score unless you want an ivy league school.

Bumpity bump bump

Also other clubs/organizations i will probably be apart of later are Beta Club, FBLA, HOSA, Ambassadors, Interact, Leadership Team, Mu Alpha Theta, and National Honor Society.

Dude, don’t stress yourself out because by senior year you’re going to be fried. Don’t join groups just for admissions. They can spot people like this easy.

Im not stressing out i just want to know if im on track to have a decent shot at getting into these colleges, mainly my EC’s

You have enough EC. In the meantime, I’d focus more on your ACT or you can’t even get in those colleges.

For the remaining years in HS, focus on some and show your commitment rather than joining every club without significant achievement. Try to obtain leadership positions if possible. Remember: quality is more important than quantity.

What do you mean by “accomplishments?” In most of these EC’s you can’t really accomplish anything.

Exactly. So join a group where you can participate in some substantial activities.

I agree with MichaelRod. ECs without notable accomplishments and/or great passion won’t help you that much. Colleges will just view your activities as scattered and shallow.

I would try to get an internship during one of your summers. It would really help your app. Get your act up and don’t report all those ec’s. some of them will be useless on the application

Thanks for all the responses guys I really appreciate it! One of my friends is working on getting us an internship in the chem department of our local university because his father is friends with one of the professors so I hope it falls through I think it would look really good on my app since I am planning to major in science.

Another tip of advice: Don’t do things just because you think they will look good on your application. Although I mentioned that an internship would look good on your app, you shouldn’t do one if you’re not passionate about it.

Work on your relationships with teachers and your counselor who will give your recs. Be sure they know about the things you do outside of class and how motivated you are.

I want to be a doctor and I am really passionate about biology and chemistry so I think the internship would be a lot of fun. I hope that maybe my friend and I will get to do a research project or some experimentation. Have any of you had an internship like this before? Do they usually let you do any research or experiments?

Keep that GPA up, don’t focus on the ACT now. It’ll come up substantially within a year and a half. A 4.0 GPA is extremely impressive if you can keep that, more so than a 33+ ACT score. That said, a 33+ ACT score compliments a 4.0 rather nicely.
