I am currently a Freshman who will be living in dorm housing next year, and my friend told me that I should room with him in Beverly-Cleary. I hear it's a part of Unit 3, and that it is bigger than the average dorm.

How is the Beverly-Cleary hall different than other dorms? What are the pros and cons of living there? And are there a certain type of people or demographic that stay in that hall?

I lived there freshman year, a corner triple. It was bigger than most triples in the units, and the rooms are bigger in general. Its only 4 floors so less people to interact with, but I made friends with people on all the floors. Also was easy to make friends with the people in the main part of Unit 3, as well.

In my year, the first floor was the Casa Mora program, so it was just people participating in that program living there. Otherwise, it was a mixed crowd.

Not really any cons to living there. They also re-did most of the bathrooms 2 years ago. Bad for us (loud construction), good for you.

Not too different from the other Units; however, the rooms are much bigger. That and the hall is structured so it’s not just one long hallway down but instead it’s kind of like those hallways you see in hotels.

Pros are definitely in the space and, at least, in my opinion, and the laundry rooms (you don’t need to trek all the way to Under Cafe 3 to get laundry done, the laundry room is in the hall itself. Then there’s also the fact that some of the bathrooms here are getting renovated even now so it’ll be good for incoming people.

The cons are basically that it’s maybe only a bit harder to socialize given the “hotel-style” format. It’s a long trek from one end of the hall to another so sometimes you won’t be able to know some people (That and there’s only 4 floors so less people to socialize with). But this is also entirely floor-dependent because sometimes you’ll have floors who socialize often by just hanging out in the study lounge.

Is there a gym in unit 3?

There isn’t a gym in Unit 3 but you can walk down to the RSF for your gym needs (which is a relatively short walk from there).

Didn’t live there but I knew/visited people who did. The rooms are big but like others have mentioned the floor format isn’t as conducive to socializing. It is also an older building and some of the furniture is pretty worn-out. Personally I prefer the style of the Unit 1/Unit 2 dorms but maybe that’s just me…

How many floors is the Casa mora theme?
