Obviously, I know food isn’t a deal breaker in picking a school, but if I’m going to spend four years there it would be nice if I liked it. My top three choices right now are Duke, UNC, and UVA (I’m applying- still have to get in haha) and the Duke cafeteria was BREATHTAKING. I’m a vegetarian and a health-conscious eater so I was just wondering how I would fair at UVA or UNC… THANKS!!
According to several moms whose children are in UVA, their cafeteria food are “terrible”! Charlottesville itself has many restaurants and its farmer’s market is really nice. But…
As someone who goes to UNC, I’d say the on-campus food varies a lot – some days great, other days meh. The town of Chapel Hill, though, has some incredible food.
Even at UNC, Duke has a rep for having some amazing dining hall food. However, there is also the cost of going to Duke…
In any case, all three of these places have great food, whether it’s on campus or slightly off. That shouldn’t be the deciding factor.
I think UVA food qualifies as OK, and there is a good range available. In Virginia, Virginia Tech and JMU have the reputation for having the best. I have no recent experience with UNC. It is also possible to cross the street and get some different options off campus at both.
Duke as mentioned now has an expensive foodie palace. Crossing the street to get something different isn’t really an option there.
Thanks! I totally agree- I was only concerned bc I’m vegetarian
