How is the Outdoors Club/Ski Club at Skidmore?

My son is considering Skidmore. He likes the school in many ways, and he likes that there are no frats. However, he’s outdoorsy, loves to ski and he’s concerned the school may be too artsy. Is there a solid group of outdoorsy, skiier types there?

Jersey mom here with a junior at Skidmore. Although my daughter is the definition of artsy, she also loves to ski and takes regular day trips to Gore. If your son reaches out, he will find people to ski with.

How does she like Skidmore overall?

D is a freshman at Skid. There is a very healthy cross section of kids there. The artsy rep gets too much play. It’s there sure. Also athletes; science kids; people who want in business and banking, etc. It’s not a school with a monolithic culture. It’s not Sarah Lawrence.

Current freshman here. Sking is very popular at Skidmore and groups of kids make weekly weekend trips to all the nearest mountains.

I’m a current applicant but I am close with some girls on the Outing Club and they are so so fun. They love to hike and ski and they are ALWAYS leading trips that are so amazing and look like a blast. They have lots of gear that can be rented out as well. Skid kids have discount season passes to Gore, Whiteface, and Belleayre, so while there is not a specific ski club, many many kids go skiing every weekend. Skid’s outing club also has an amazing Instagram and really fun break trips
