Good professors? Good grad. school placement?
Since Rochester has a well regarded engineering department (especially in optics), I would assume it’s got a rock solid physics department.
Dh is an academic research physicist (PhD) and has many colleagues who are Rochester grads. UR grads are well represented at the National Labs and in academia and industry. UR’s optic department is among the best in the US.
Getting into grad school --the burden is on you to earn the grades, get involved in research (and there’s plenty of opportunities) and score well on your GRE. Do that and getting into grad school won’t be an issue.
