How is this for an essay topic?

I messed up my freshman year and ended it with a 3.2 GPA. But ever since, I've had a huge upward trend (3.96 UW soph). The reason for my frosh year grades was that I thought I was the smartest kid alive. My mom always told me that I'm going to be a doctor someday (I'm Asian, lol), so I didn't care about my grades. Why try in school if I'm going to be a doctor anyways?

I know that my transcript will show the upward trend and that I shouldn't talk about my GPA or other school stuff in my essay, but what about the reason behind my setback?

hmmm… not so sure that it is the best essay topic I can think of. It depends how you present it, and it could be good. Just think that maybe there are better things for you to talk about.

that (the way you just wrote it in this thread) makes you sound incredibly cocky.
i hope you’re aware of that, and present it in a much different way in your essay. it COULD be a do-able topic. but you must not sound cocky, and must not make the whole thing an excuse for your grades.
in fact, i’d stay away from talking about your grades entirely, and just talk about how you came to terms with your own abilities and limitations.

I guess I do sound a little bit cocky, but that honestly was not my intention. I just thought it would be an interesting experience that probably not many people go through.
