How is USC like for international Asians?

I have a friend who is an asian living in Asia currently, and considering USC. However, he has heard that it is quite segregated on ethnic lines even though there may be many different races. Do the white americans usually interact with themselves, while the asian group with themselves? is there any racism present?

bumppp 10char. </p>

:p

BUMP. Anyone??

I don’t think there is overt or purposeful racism, just that each group tend to be more comfortable and associate with people who have more things in common in general, ethnic background being one of them. Happens outside of college as well, happens everywhere

would it be possible for someone to have close relationships with friends that are from both their own race as well as other races? Or is it usually one or the other, because you pretty much only choose one group to hang out with the majority of your time?

i think you’re overthinking things a bit. it isn’t really a black and white issue (lol)

yes, it’s true that asians tend to hang out with asians, but it isn’t always the case. when you get involved with campus organizations, you’ll make friends with people of all ethnicities, assuming that it isn’t an ethnic-based organization like CASA or KSA.

to use myself as an example, most of my friends are asian, but my staff team is seriously the most diverse group ever and i hang out with both groups all the time.

USC tends to assign roommates from different ethnicities. So, you will not only befriend to different races, you can actually live with them. :-)
