How is Williams?

I know this question has probably been asked a lot, but I just want to know more about Williams. I was recently accepted to Williams!!! and I have done my fair amount of research on the school, but I have never had the chance to visit the school.
I heard the neighborhood around Williams is pretty much owned by Williams College. Is that true?
I am firm on not drinking; Although I know drinking is probably common at Williams, are there dorms that do not allow drinking? I'm not really the type of person that likes to go partying.
How is the food at Williams? I can get pretty picky sometimes...
Finally... how is the internet connection?
Sorry for the bunch of questions...Just excited.

@Shinpachi‌ I’m not qualified to answer these questions as a fellow applicant, but I’m glad to find someone else who’s concerned about how strong the internet connection is!

Hey guys! I applied Williams as a recruit, and I’ve visited as well. I can tell you that yes, there is drinking on campus but it does not define the social scene! I love staying in and reading a book or playing board games with friends, and I was able to experience that on my visit. Everyone is extremely welcoming and friendly and no one will pressure you to drink if that is not what suits you. As a freshman, the best housing for you (if you do not want alcohol near you while you are in your Entry-which is what they refer to their dorms as-would be at Mission Park. On my visit, I experienced both the party scene and hanging out in the entry and playing board games. I can confidently say that there is everything for everyone at Williams. Drinking at college is inevitable, so do not make that the deciding factor when approaching Williams as a potential learning institution. However, one thing you should keep in mind when deciding on Williams is the environment/setting. The “neighborhood” surrounding Williams is a very small town with cute “nameless” restaurants and shops. (Ex. the local ice-cream shop is called lickety-split) Williamstown has nearly everything you need, but it is VERY isolated (closest mall/target=15 miles away…boston/manhattan 2 1/2 hrs…albany=1 1/2 hours). This can be looked at as good or bad. Personally, I love the city and I will move there after I graduate, but during my 4 years of undergrad, I would prefer an environment in which I can focus solely on my studies. When considering a school like Williams, I would suggest you visit. That being said, I can assure you that there will be no mistake in attending, as it comes with life-long memories and benefits. The internet connection is bi-polar, and it’s important to know that Verizon and At&t are some of the few cell phone services that work in Williamstown. I have T-mobile, and had no service my entire trip (I am now switching to AT&T for that reason). The internet works better in some places than others (library better than dorms), but there is a coffee shop you can go to, or if it becomes an excessive problem, you can buy your own mini wifi router ($30 a month if that). For me, internet connection was not a huge issue and rumor has it they are improving it. Food is predictable but good and quite healthy. I only spent about 4 days there, but the food was satisfying and better than what I experienced at Georgetown, Harvard, and Cornell. I hope I’ve answered all of your questions…if any more pop up either of you can feel free to message me or respond on this forum! Anyway, I wish you the best of luck with your decision and college search and I hope to see you at Williams in the Fall! Go Ephs!
