I'm applying rd and I won't have a chance to visit for awhile, but I've heard mixed opinions about this. I've heard that Columbia is totally liberal, but I've also heard that there are quite a few moderate/conservative people, at least in comparison to the other Ivies. anyone here have a better idea about this than I do? I'm fairly conservative myself, and I don't really mind a liberal atmosphere, but I don't want to go to a school if everyone there is like-minded and close-minded about their ways of thinking.

hey..they arent close minded..i hate the word liberal..okie tata

I hope that it is liberal, but not too liberal. Throughout my life, I have been raised in communities where being a liberal is in the minority. For christ sake, in the senior room fo my school, right next to the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition Calendar, is the Ronald Regan Calendar.

I'd wager that there are a lot of limousine liberals.

I hate the term "limousine liberal."

sorry, sexydesi, I never meant that liberals are close-minded. I just wouldn't wanna go to a close-minded school, cause I know that there are a lot of those...I want a diverse school, but open-minded, and I think Columbia is like that, but I have heard otherwise too.

Yes, even though I am a democrat, I would hate a school that was filled with democrats. I hope this is not the case with Columbia.

i'm pretty conservative, and i applied ED...but I undersatnd the liberal point of view...i just hope others understand my point of view. I like the majority of liberals, but a few of them are close minded and don't listen to any of the things that I have to say. But I'm sure there are conservatives like that too. It's just a type of person I guess. A type of person I don't particularly like.

Columbians are probably the type to discard the silly blanket terms of 'liberal' and 'conservative'.

lol i sincerely doubt that.

I'd have to say I agree with miss insanity.

wow, these boards move fast...already on page 2. so does anyone actually know first-hand about this, or has anyone talked to someone that knows?

hey..i dont know what page your talking about buddy but i think we're still on page 1..hmm..hehe

o i think i get you..you meant this thread went to page two?

yeh that's what I meant.

I think Columbia has diversity in ever walk of life, including on the political spectrum...

(Go Democrats...!)

I don't think Columbia is quite so diverse on the political spectrum. Liberal arts colleges tend to run liberal. in fact, colleges in general do.

yeh yeh yeh...
(Go Humans!...)
