how long are you taking to prepare for the SATs?

just wondering..i bet using a tutor is different that using the practice books- so state how long you studied for the test using what method

9 months, between March 2007 and December 2007. Bought up 10 RS, Official SAT Study Guide, and old PSATs and just kept taking them 'till I could own the test.

and what is your final score ?

760 Critical Reading, 780 Math, 800 Writing

And as a nice side bonus from the prep, I also nailed the PSAT along the way:
80 CR, 80 M, 68 W

Arachnotron- how did you combine long term sat prep with your regular school work? I mean, did you have a set time that you studied exclusively for the sat?

Well, I didn't stress out about it, you know? I took the exam once as a sophomore as a "diagnostic" (I wasn't even familiar with all the question types) and did well enough to not totally destroy my confidence (680CR, 710M, 650 W). So, what I did was just basically told myself, "I should make it a point to fit in some SAT preparation now and then."

And that's exactly what I did. I didn't like taking full SAT exams because they were too long, so what I did was I bought old PSATs from CB (make sure to e-mail the store help to have them e-mail you answer keys) and did one every so often (no schedule, just whenever I felt like it).

I then took the real PSAT and did well (at the time I expected about a 73M and 70 CR...didn't quite think I got them all right), so after that I just didn't prep. I then took the December SAT and, lo and behold, I did well :)

The key is to just do things as it's convenient for you. Don't try to make schedules or plans...just get things done and you'll improve.
